1. FIRST CRUSH
Remember your first crush? Can you imagine having the opportunity to experience the rush of your first crush every year? That’s exactly what our winemakers get to experience each and every year when Harvest arrives. Harvest is upon us in full flow; and our winemakers are working non–stop to bring in the 2010 harvests for your future enjoyment. Always pressing the envelope to help improve quality and production, Owner/Vintner Jim Carter expanded South Coast Winery’s crush pad facilities this year which will double capacities to produce your favorite South Coast Winery wines. The new crush equipment will hold about 21 tons; but that’s not all. The equipment gives us the capability of keeping the fruit cooled during pressing operation to maintain better quality! We’ve added a new de–stemmer and a sorting table (called the MOG Monster). While you allow your imagination to run wild with visions of this monster, MOG actually means "matter other than grapes." The MOG monster helps remove any sort of organic vineyard debris that could negatively impact fermentation. Cool clean fruit, in turn, gives us much better wines!
